Install on a Mac
Our Mac installers are .pkg files. They are not signed with an Apple Developer ID yet, so after you download one, macOS asks you to approve it once. It takes about a minute.
- Download the installer. Get the
.pkgfrom the app's page. - Try to open it. Double-click the file. macOS says it cannot verify the installer. Click Done. Do not choose Move to Trash.
- Allow it in System Settings. Open System Settings › Privacy & Security and scroll down to the Security section. You will see a note that the installer was blocked. Click Open Anyway.
- Confirm. Click Open Anyway once more in the confirmation, then use Touch ID or enter your Mac password.
- Install. Follow the installer. Some of our installers ask for your Mac password.
- First launch. If macOS also blocks the app itself the first time, repeat steps 3 and 4. The entry in Privacy & Security names the app.
Do not see Open Anyway? Double-click the installer again so macOS shows its message, then reopen Privacy & Security. The button appears under Security right after you try to open the file.
An installer opened straight from an external drive usually runs without this step. A download, AirDrop or email adds a quarantine flag, which is what triggers the message.
Why does this happen? We are not enrolled in Apple's developer programme yet, so our installers are not signed or notarised. You can check any download against its SHA-256 fingerprint, as described below.
